Havre de Grace firmly atop NTRA Poll

Horseracing Betting Lines

10/03/2011 - New York, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Havre de Grace guaranteed herself to be the top-rated thoroughbred in the country going into next month's Breeders' Cup by greatly increasing her lead in the current NTRA Poll. The only question that remains is which Championship event the filly will start.

Owned by Fox Hill Farm, Havre de Grace dominated other females in Saturday's Beldame Invitational at Belmont Park with an 8 1/4-length victory. For that impressive performance the filly received 19 first-place votes and 209 points to open up a 48 point lead over Tizway.

"(Horse of the Year) could be determined in the (Breeders' Cup) Classic," the filly's trainer Larry Jones said. "That's where it should be determined, on the racetrack. It shouldn't just be bound to someone's opinion. If she wins the Classic, then definitely it's a no-brainer that she is Horse of the Year. But I don't think for us to still be considered for Horse of the Year we necessarily have to win the Classic. But we have to show up and run big."

Tizway, who did not race this past weekend, is second with three top votes and 161 points. The six-year-old will likely train up to the Breeders' Cup at Churchill Downs.

Moving up two spots into third is turf specialist Cape Blanco. The Irish-bred picked up 157 points off his narrow victory on Saturday in the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic at Belmont Park. The four-year-old colt has made three successful trips to the U.S. from Europe this year and will do so again for the Breeders' Cup Turf.

"I'd imagine (the Breeders' Cup Turf) will be the drill, but they'll bring him home and Aidan (trainer Aidan O'Brien) will see how he comes out of the race and Aidan will decide," said Charlie O'Connor of Ashford Stud.

Flat Out, trained by Charles Dickey, held sway in the Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park on Saturday and was rewarded with 147 points to advance to fourth from seventh. The five-year-old is another Breeders' Cup Classic probable.

"I know my horse can do it. He tries his heart out on every track, no matter what type of track it is. He's never run a really bad race," Dickey said.

Pacific Classic winner Acclamation won Saturday on Santa Anita's turf course in the Clement L. Hirsch Turf Championship. Owned by Bud Johnston, the five- year-old nonetheless dropped one spot to fifth in the voting with 131 points.

"It's pretty hard for a California horse to get Horse of the Year," Johnston said. "If we won the (Breeders' Cup) Turf and a long shot won the Classic, then we might be thrown into the picture. If we won the Classic, then we would definitely contend, but that's a lot of ifs."

Mike Repole's Uncle Mo and Stay Thirsty are sixth and ninth, respectively, in the poll. Uncle Mo picked up 67 points and his stablemate got 38. On Saturday at Belmont Park, Uncle Mo won the Kelso and Stay Thirsty was third in the Gold Cup.

Trainer Todd Pletcher expects to have both three-year-olds to start in the Classic.

Game On Dude got back into the poll off his victory Saturday in Santa Anita's Goodwood Stakes. The four-year-old gelding received 64 points to land in the seventh spot.

The eighth position in the voting belongs to champion mare Goldikova with 39 points.

Entering the poll with 37 points is Stacelita. The five-year-old mare won the Flower Bowl Invitational on Belmont Park's grass course Saturday. Owned by Martin Schwartz, the French-based mare will start in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf.

"She's done what we have asked her to do," said Stacelita's trainer Chad Brown. "She's a remarkable horse. Her form is outstanding, and she's actually quite easy to train. I mean, she's always cooperative and shows up every morning to train. To execute Mr. Schwartz's plan, it's been pretty easy so far. I feel like it's time to get tested with the best around in the Breeders' Cup, so I'm looking forward to it."

Falling out of the top 10 for the first time this year is four-year-old filly Blind Luck. The champion filly failed to run in Saturday's Lady's Secret at Santa Anita and was eased the final furlong.

Will Ohio State continue to run the table in College Football betting odds?
MySportsbook.com favors Buckeyes, Fighting Irish and Golden Bears in this weekend's big games.

NEW YORK, NY, Sept. 21 - My Sportsbook NCAA football fans: things are beginning to get really interesting on college football's national stage. Following last weekend's "Separation Saturday", which included five teams ranked in the top 15 dropping games, the BCS Championship picture is beginning to take shape - with Ohio State leading the charge. And, according to odds makers at MySportsbook.com, the number-one-ranked Buckeyes will continue their winning ways this weekend.

Revenge will be the name of the game in Columbus this Saturday, as Ohio State looks to even the score following last season's loss to Joe Paterno's Nittany Lions. Although Penn State are listed as 16.5 point underdogs, they are 11-10 all-time versus the Buckeyes. Paterno and the Lions, however, will have to shut down Heisman Trophy favorite Troy Smith who has thrown for 769 yards and seven touchdowns this season.

Speaking of revenge, Notre Dame will be out for some against Michigan State, following last year's 44 - 41 overtime loss to the Spartans in South Bend. The thirteenth-ranked Irish, listed as a 3-point favorite, will also be looking to avenge last Saturday's thrashing from the Michigan Wolverines. The Spartans, meanwhile, have won seven of the last nine match-ups against Notre Dame and are coming off an impressive 38-23 victory over Pittsburgh.

Out west, 22nd-ranked Arizona State will be battling for their first victory over 21st-ranked California since 2000. Although the Golden Bears are listed as 7.5-point favorites, the Sun Devils are 3-0, lead the nation in sacks with 18 and possess the Pac-10's leading passer in sophomore quarterback Rudy Carpenter.
